Stiv Wilson is an award-winning activist, Emmy Award-winning filmmaker. After completing 35,000 nautical miles sailing the world to study marine plastic pollution, Stiv co-authored the first ever global estimate of the abundance of plastics in all of the major five oceans in the peer reviewed journal, PLOS ONE. Stiv went on to pass state level policy as well as the first plastics focused national policy, The Plastic Free Waters Act, that was signed into law by President Obama in 2015.
A frequent speaker on the issue of plastic pollution, his work has been met with critical acclaim, winning a United Nations Ocean Hero award and he co-founded the #BreakFreeFromPlastic movement. Wilson writes on plastic issues for various publications and has been profiled in dozens of media outlets including The New York Times. He produced his first feature length documentary, The Story of Plastic, which has earned several awards, including an Emmy Award. He resides in Olympia, WA with his partner and twin daughters.

Megan Ponder is an accomplished public policy professional, researcher, and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker. For the last decade, Megan’s work has focused on plastic pollution including global recycling systems and the impacts of petrochemical production on communities. Previously, Megan worked on waste, recycling and climate policy at the City of Portland and served as the mayor’s sustainability policy coordinator.
She has consulted for global and national plastic pollution campaigns and has worked with stakeholders representing government, industry, and community perspectives on plastic pollution and waste management. Megan is a frequent public speaker on waste and recycling policy solutions and produced the Emmy Award-winning documentary The Story of Plastic. Megan was raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and currently splits time between the Gulf Coast and the Pacific Northwest.
